The volunteers were tasked with removing reeds and vegetation from a pond at Redwell Primary School in Alloa. Sightlines were improved and a clear path was made to the pond for pupils to use the area as a pond dipping resource. EPIC volunteers donned waders to enter the pond – clearing litter and overgrown grasses – which was a new experience for all. The volunteers loved getting muddy and seeing this environment from a new perspective while also learning about the life cycle of a pond and the need for regular maintenance.
The pupils of Redwell Primary undertook a simple survey of the pond alongside EPIC volunteers after the clearance and were grateful for the improved access. In all EPIC and TCV cleared and improved a pond that was 80m2.
